Red vs Blue Reconstruction

Red VS Blue: Reconstruction, the new series from the makers of Red VS Blue: Blood Gulch Chronicles has recently become available to order on DVD. The series has some of the Blood Gulch favorites, but it centers on a new lead character, Agent Washington, a freelancer (like Tex from BGC) who formerly had an AI like the one that caused so many problems in Blood Gulch embedded in his armor. This has been removed prior to the beginning of Reconstruction, and the experience which led up to its removal caused Wash to refuse another AI, as well as making him ticked at his boss. It also caused the freelancer program to abandon using AI’s in any of the new freelancers. Wash's solo exploits were detailed in the four part series Recovery One, which is available as a live download. In Reconstruction, Wash is tasked with tracking down the AI's, including the Omega AI, which is the one from BGC. He is also tracking an enemy called the Meta, who is also looking for AI’s and targeting freelancers. He is joined by some of the cast from the BGC (I won't say who, I don't want to ruin the surprise when they pop up!) There are also two forces at work behind the scenes, whose motives are not yet entirely clear, but hopefully will be explained in more detail in the next season. One is the director of project freelancer; the other is referred to as the chairman, and these two don’t seem to get along. This series has some of the humor of the BGC's in it, but overall is much more serious in tone, with Wash being a much more grounded and capable character than the ones present in the original series. The series also has a definite story arch, making things feel more like a solid story rather than a random series of events. There is definitely a new sophistication in the story displayed here that was not present in the previous series. Overall, it strikes a very good balance between keeping some of the signature humor and creating something new and interesting. I think people who stopped watching the BGC's in the later seasons will enjoy this new direction for the series. Especially if they like sci-fi! It is available on DVD for $20, and you can watch the episodes free online. The DVD has extras including the Recovery One episodes and the public service announcement videos. I think it is well worth the $20 for the DVD, but if you want to watch the episodes first you can find them at http://rvb.roosterteeth.com/archive/ once the second season starts they will probably not be available online for much longer, so don’t wait too long to check the series out!
